Martinsound MicMAX(TM) Precision Microphone Preamp
July 10, 1998
The Neotek MicMAX(TM) Microphone Preamplifier will make its Summer NAMM debut in Nashville, July 10th - 12th, 1998. MicMAX is now in production and shipping to dealers and customers. Neotek is a division of Martinsound, Inc., a leading supplier of high quality mixing and signal processing systems for the music recording, broadcast and post production markets.
MicMAX is a state-of-the-art, dual channel microphone preamplifier with a design based on the highly regarded circuitry used in the world-famous Neotek Elite console system. MicMAX's unique architecture is balanced from input to output, and utilizes discrete transistors and special high-voltage, audiophile op-amps. The result is noise near the theoretical minimum, practically unmeasurable distortion and headroom to spare, making MicMAX highly suitable for the most pristine 24-bit recording. MSRP for MicMAX is $1,200.
Gain is controlled in 5dB steps by 'nudge' buttons, with a detented trim pot providing an additional +/-5dB adjustment. Front panel features for each channel include a two-digit gain readout and bargraph meter, phantom power switch, switchable input impedance with 500 Ohm, 1.5 kOhm and 10 kOhm settings, pad switch, polarity inversion and subsonic filter.
"Our combination trim controls mean that we can use hard contacts to cleanly and precisely set gain in the most critical stage," says Craig Connally, VP of Martinsound's Neotek Division. "We have also included other audiophile features, such as giant polypropylene capacitors at the inputs - the only caps in the signal path, because we use DC servos elsewhere - plus special 1% resistors and toroidal power transformers feeding six regulated power supplies."
"MicMAX is the second new product produced by the Neotek design team following the division's move to California," says Chris Walsh, Martinsound's VP of Sales. "MicMAX can best be described as 'the Elite Microphone Preamplifier on Steroids'. It was designed without the economic and physical constraints required in console layouts. We think MicMAX is pretty special!"
