Martinsound Announces MultiMAX(TM) Multiformat Monitor Control System
July 10, 1998
The Neotek MultiMAX(TM) Multiformat Monitor Control System will make its Summer NAMM debut in Nashville, July 10th - 12th, 1998. Orders are now being taken for MultiMAX, which will go into production during August. Neotek is a division of Martinsound, Inc., a leading supplier of high quality mixing and signal processing systems for the music recording, broadcast and post production markets.
The 1U rack-mounting unit may be connected to any mixing console equipped with eight busses to provide comprehensive surround-sound monitoring controls in every popular format, as well as offering advanced film-style post production features. MSRP for MultiMAX is $2,795.
MultiMAX utilizes up to eight of a console's existing group or multitrack busses as the basis for surround-sound mixes in LCRS, 5.1 and 7.1 channel formats. The unit provides gain control across the monitor chain, insertion of an encode-decode processor, and individual loudspeaker mutes. MultiMAX's 5.1-channel mode accommodates both Dolby Digital(TM) and MPEG-2 formats for Digital Versatile Disc (DVD), including Stereo Downmixing, as well as Dolby SR-D(TM) and CP65 in the film world. The 7.1-channel mode handles Sony SDDS(TM) and IMAX(TM) formats.
MultiMAX enables the summing of multiple pre-mixes into the monitor audio. Logic inputs simplify the construction of a film-style monitor system with PEC/Direct (Playback/Record or Tape/Bus) and mute/solo on each of the eight inputs, using solid-state switching.
"No other product short of a pure film console has these capabilities," says Craig Connally, VP of Martinsound's Neotek Division and the product's designer. "MultiMAX controls main surround, stereo nearfield plus small mono speaker systems, and retains the console's monitor output for traditional stereo recording."
"There is an increasing demand for surround-sound capabilities in music and broadcast as well as post production," says Chris Walsh, Martinsound's VP of Sales, "arising from multi-channel film formats, DVD production and advanced television. MultiMAX is a quick and easy way to provide a facility's existing console with high quality surround-sound monitoring capabilities."
