Oberheim Enters the Analog Modeling World
February 27, 2000
The OB-12 is Oberheim's first
endeavor into the analog modeling world. The OB-12 immediately grabs your
attention with it's bold look. A bright blue chassis with white lettering
and gray wood sides. The OB-12 is intentionally laid out much like the old
analog synths of yesteryear. Analog fans will immediately understand the
layout of all of the knobs, sliders and buttons. Complete with some extra
goodies like aftertouch, ribbon controller, pitch bend and modulation
wheel.
Most important to note about the OB-12 is the graphic interface. The LCD is
240 x 64 pixels. The screen actually draws out all of the parameters you
are changing. This means that you can see what you are changing on an
envelope or the curve of the EQ. On board graphic & parametric EQ, S/PDIF,
motion & phrase recorders, and tons of morphing possibilities await the
user. The motion recorder can record knob and fader movements to free up
your hands later for playing on difficult numbers.
Oberheim has intentionally modeled the sound of the original Oberheim
filters which give it that classic "Oberheim sound." There is also an
extensive effects section that give you reverbs, delays, chorus and lots of
overdrive algorithms. With all of it's power, the OB-12 is sure to become a
classic in it's own right.
Armadillo Enterprises is the sole North American distributor of Oberheim
products.
