Shure Unveils Beta 87C Condenser Mic
February 4, 2000
February 4, 2000 Shure Incorporated, today announced the availability
of the Beta 87C, the newest member of the Beta microphone family. Developed
in response to professional demands associated with the use of personal
monitoring devices such as the PSM® Personal Stereo Monitor systems,
Shure's new Beta 87C premium vocal microphone delivers studio-grade performance
and a smooth, extended high-end frequency response in a cardioid condenser
design. The Beta 87C is available both as a wired microphone and as a
capsule for use with Shure wireless systems.
"I
recently tried out the Beta 87C and used it for all vocals on the Eagle's
big Millennium gig in LA because of its smooth top end, " said JD
Brill, front of house engineer. "Plus, the band was pleased with
the way this mic worked with their PSM systems."
The uniform cardioid polar pattern of the Beta 87C enables users to effectively
reject ambient noise arriving at the rear of the microphone capsule, an attribute
that will be especially appealing to users of personal monitors and others who
frequently experience undesirable sounds bleeding into their mixes. Another benefit
of the Beta 87C is its fluent high frequency response, which lacks the "edgy"
qualities that can annoy performers and require added equalization.
David Morgan, front of house engineer for Paul Simon and Bette Midler commented,
"I am pleased Shure has chosen to expand the Beta 87 family by offering this
outstanding product." Morgan recently tried out the new mic at a recent Paul
Simon show and determined, "The Beta 87C is a great choice for singers who
are using ear monitors. The mic is warm without overbearing proximity effect and
sounds extremely natural in personal monitor gear." For those who dont
use personal monitors, Morgan added, "The mic also performs very well with
floor monitor systems if the overall stage level is relatively low."
Other features of the high-output Beta 87C include high gain-before-feedback
and a low frequency roll-off that provides greater command of proximity effect.
The microphone offers a frequency response of 50 to 20,000 Hz, a wide dynamic
range of 117 dB, low distortion characteristics, minimal off-axis tone coloration
and the ability to handle sound pressure levels up to 139 dB. Additionally, an
advanced cartridge shock-mount system keeps handling noise down to minimal levels.
Supplied accessories include a built-in pop filter, swivel adapter and carrying/storage
bag.
Like its supercardioid cousin, the Beta 87A, the Beta 87C is available from
authorized Shure dealers around the globe.
