Yamaha Updates DG Series DigitalAmp Software

February 6, 2000

Long known in the industry for its high-quality effects processors, Yamaha Corporation of America continues the tradition with the introduction of the DG Series Version 2 Software at Winter NAMM 2000. The software package, available January 2000, allows guitarists to upgrade the award-winning DG Series digital guitar amplifiers without purchasing additional effects, and may be either downloaded from the Yamaha DG website, or ordered directly from Yamaha–free of charge.

The upgrade comes in the form of a MIDI file and may be loaded directly using the MIDI IN on the amp’s rear panel. Users can now add Tremolo, Chorus, new MIDI effects controls, and 80 new preset patches to the DG’s list of on-board features that includes digital reverb, tape echo, motorized knobs and a variety of selectable amplifier types.

"This new software is proof that Yamaha is committed to providing real state-of-the-art digital technology in a ‘tube-like’ amplifier," states David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "Great guitarists such as Alan Holdsworth and Richie Kotzen are using the DG amplifiers because of their incredible tone. Now, with the Version 2 Software, guitarists can have an ‘all-in-one’ package with great tone and great effects. Plus–it’s absolutely free."

Professionals have described the Tremolo as having a "cool, retro vibe," and the Chorus as "a warm, single-phase effect with a unique analog-type sound." Yamaha recruited some of LA’s top session guitar players to develop the new patches.

"This is a dream come true for current and future DG amp owners," says Gary Cook, Guitar product manager. "Yamaha has always been a leader in signal processing. Now guitarists can experience great effects in the DG series with this upgrade. The bottom line–with the new software, you won’t need another amp."
