Yamaha Releases Next Generation of Live Sound Speakers

February 6, 2000

Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Professional Audio, introduces the Se Series line of affordable, high-performance live sound speakers at Winter NAMM 2000. Designed as full-range high output systems for speech or music, the Se Series will satisfy the needs of sound reinforcement professionals, gigging musicians, small clubs and houses of worship. All models are scheduled to ship February, 2000.

Four new models–the S10e, S12e, S12Me, and S15e–represent the next generation in Yamaha’s Club Series speakers. Design innovations include Yamaha’s proprietary constant-directivity horn coupled to a 1-in. 90 x 40 compression driver, which produces a flatter response, greater intelligibility and better overall performance than piezo-type tweeters. All speaker models have a crossover frequency of 3 kHz, and are built to handle the power delivered by contemporary amplifiers. State-of-the-art computerized woodworking techniques guarantee strong, road-worthy cabinets.

"With the introduction of the Se Series, anyone can afford to own a quality P.A.," states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Professional Audio. "We believe this new line will more than satisfy bands, clubs and churches who are familiar with Yamaha’s popular Club Series speakers."

The S10e features a two-way, bass reflex design with a 10-in. low-frequency driver. Power handling is rated at a maximum of 400W. The S12e and the floor monitor version, the S12Me are two-way, bass reflex designs with a 12-in. woofer, which provides solid low end to 60 Hz. Power handling is rated at a maximum of 500W.

For extended low-frequency performance, Yamaha introduces the S15e. The two-way, bass reflex design features a high-performance, 15-in. low frequency driver which gives the S15e smooth response and maintains power handling at very high levels.

"Yamaha continues to bridge the gap between high performance and affordability," states John Schauer, product manager, Professional Audio. "Speaker products at this price point usually contain piezo tweeters and mediocre cabinetry. The Se Series features state-of-the-art components and rugged enclosures usually found on more costly units."

All Se Series speakers include dual 1/4-in. connectors and road-ready features: durable "carpet" finish, corner protectors and heavy-duty carrying handles. The heavy gauge, perforated steel grilles provide additional component protection and guarantee years of great performance.
