Ibanez Prestige and Pro Soundgear Basses Get New Design Pickup

January 29, 1998Ibanez has developed a new bass pickup that will be incorporated into their 1998 upper end Prestige SR5000 Series models and Professional SR1000 Series Basses. The new pickup is passive which generates less noise than an active pickup. However, while the new design is humbucking, it is nonstack with a single sensing field for the preferred single coil bass tone. What does all this mean? Says John Lomas, pickup and electronics designer at Ibanez USA, "it means that when compared to our original pickups and those of many other manufacturers, our new bass pickups sound bigger and rounder and are much wider range. In short, we think they just sound better." While the new pickups are passive, Soundgear Prestige and Professional basses will continue to feature active EQ's with variable midrange control.
