Electro-Voice Introduces M4 Mixing ConsolePowerful EV Console Designed for Demanding
Live Sound Situations January 28, 1999Electro-Voice introduced the M4 Series high-performance mixing console
at the NAMM Convention. The M4 is designed to meet the needs of the most
demanding professional live sound applications.
"The M4 offers a wide range of features and extensive signal-routing
capabilities ideal for critical professional audio situations," says
Mike Torlone, director of marketing music products for Electro-Voice.
"The M4 package exceeds the performance specs found in higher priced
mixers, making the M4 a desirable choice for discerning users."
The M4 High-Performance Four Subgroup Mixing Console comes in 16 and
24 input frame sizes offering switch selectable, 3-pin, active-balanced
microphone inputs and 1/4-inch balanced line inputs. Each channel features
an input gain control with peak LED indicator for precise tuning of a
wide variety of input sources, a direct output for individual processing
of a signal, a three-band EQ with shelving-type high and low frequency
controls and a sweepable mid-range control covering 250 to 5,000Hz at
+\-15 dB, and an 80 Hz high-pass filter to eliminate low frequency rumble.
Each input has six aux sends with aux 1 and 2 pre-fader for use as monitor
sends, and aux 3 through 6 switchable as either pre-fader or post-fader.
A convenient shift button pairs either aux 3/4 or 5/6. Inputs can be routed
to subgroups 1/2, 3/4 or the master outputs. Pre-fade listen switch, channel
mute and 100-mm long throw faders complete the generous input section
feature set. Additionally, four stereo input channels are available offering
unbalanced 1/4-inch connectors with peak indicators, pre-fader listen
switch, 2-band EQ, the same routing capabilities as the regular input
channels, aux sends configured as stereo channels 1 and 3 addressing auxs
1 and 3, and stereo channels 2 and 4 addressing auxs 2 and 4. Each stereo
channel has a mute switch and a 45-mm fader.
The master section features 3-pin active balanced low-impedance outputs
for subgroups 1 through 4, and the left and right master outputs controlled
by 100mm long throw faders. Insert jacks for the subgroups and stereo
master outputs allow the connection of any universal signal processing,
such as a limiter or reverb with the subgroups having after-fade listen
switches. An additional mono output controlled by a 100mm fader sums the
left and right masters together via two 1/4-inch balanced phone jacks.
The M4 has a headphone amplifier with level control and jack, a talkback
system, tape recorder output and playback section with separate level
controls, six aux sends, and four stereo aux returns, a universal 48 volt
phantom power switch, accommodation for a 12-volt BNC light and integral
power supply complete the feature set.
"The M4 series combines excellent low noise performance with very
low total harmonic distortion, wrapped up in a high-quality build design,"
states Torlone. "The M4 will dominate this segment of the live sound
market." Visit Electro-Voice (a division of Telex) on the web at www.telex.com. |
