January 28, 1999

Expanding on the success of the Remo World Percussion line, Remo Belli, President and founder of Remo, Inc., has announced the introduction of the new "Valencia" series of professional Bongos, Timbales and Cowbells and the "El Conguero" series of Conga drums. The new lines, developed in conjunction with leading latin drumming artists, feature conga and bongo drums with Remo's advanced Mondo drumheads and Acousticon drumshells in a choice of six brilliant sparkle lacquer finish options. Three sets of chrome-plated, steel-shelled timbales and two styles of top-quality cowbells are also available.

According to Remo World Percussion product specialist, Chalo Eduardo, besides setting a new standard for sound and performance with Acousticon "El Conguero" congas and "Valencia" bongos, the "Valencia" Timbales and Cowbells mark the first time Remo has ever offered metal World Percussion instruments. "In developing a complete line of Latin instruments, meeting the needs of the world's top players has always been our primary goal," Eduardo explains. "There is a wonderful tradition of sound in Latin cultures so we spent a great deal of time and effort finding the right materials and designs to authentically recreate those sounds."

  • "El Conguero" Congas use the popular "wide-belly" conga drum design developed in conjunction with Remo Signature Artist, Poncho Sanchez. The drums are available in 11, 11 3/4, 12 1/2 and 13" diameters and are 30" tall. "El Conguero" congas are available in a choice of red, black, green, purple, blue and white brilliant sparkle lacquer finishes. "El Conguero" Congas also include "SoftTouch" rims and a molded base for increased stability as well as Mondo FiberSkyn 3 heads with new crimped-style hoops.
  • "Valencia" Bongos are offered in two sets; 7 and 8 1/2" and 7 and 9" with the same choice of finishes as the "El Conguero" Congas. "Valencia" Bongos also feature heavy-duty, chrome-plated traditional-style hardware and Mondo FiberSkyn 3 bongo heads.
  • "Valencia" Steel Timbales are seven inches in depth to provide more playing area on the side of the shell. The only timbales that feature low-profile ears and tension bolts to allow rimshots and cross-sticks on the entire counterhoop, they come in 10 and 12", 13 and 14" and 14 and 15" pairs with Ambassador Renaissance heads and a choice of chrome-plated or "hammertone" powder coated counterhoops and tuning brackets.
  • "Valencia" Cowbells are available in two styles, "Traditional" with a conventional-shaped opening and "Big Mouth" with a noticeably wider mouth. Both styles feature high-grade tempered steel and a lacquered raw finish and both are offered in a selection of five graduating sizes and tones with offset mounting clamps and screws. "Valencia" Series Cowbells also include a unique three-tone Agogo bell plus three hand-held bells (without mounting brackets) including two bongo bells and an innovative cha-cha bell.
